Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel assembled to me, because of the transgression of those who had been carried away captive, and I sat astonished until the evening sacrifice. – Ezra 9:4

This was a big moment for Israel and for Ezra. The leaders and rulers of Israel had led the people into sin. They had done exactly what God asked them not to do! They had married with pagan women. They had become family with people who would lead them away from God, instead of towards Him. What would Ezra do? How would he respond?

Before Ezra did anything, he fasted. He spent all day sitting and seeking God’s will. And then he arose, “…fell on [his] knees and spread of [his] hands to the Lord.”

Do you have a big decision to make? Stop trying to decide! No need to weigh pro’s and con’s. Instead, fast and pray. Seek the Lord! Spread out your hands to God and confess your absolute inability to be strong and make good decisions on your own. And as you humble yourself before the Lord, He will tell you exactly what to do.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for making good decisions through me. I will seek You with all my heart! And I know that as I do, You will tell me what to do next. I am grateful for Your leading and Your guidance, in Jesus’ name!
