Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. – 1 Cor. 7:4
What a massively offensive notion! The wife’s body belongs to her husband, and the husband’s body belongs to his wife. We live in a society where self-control is prized. “It’s my body, and I can do with it what I want!” But Scripture says it is actually not your body at all.
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price… – 1 Cor. 6:19-20a
You belong to God. Your body belongs to God! Your mind, your future and your legacy belong to God. You can fight it! Or you can embrace it. And by fully yielding to God and His plans, finally you will experience what it feels like to be completely redeemed.
Prayer:
Lord, I declare that my body does not belong to me. My body is Yours! My life is Yours. Take my life and do with it (and with me!) what You wish, in Jesus’ name.
