Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“And the people blessed all the men who willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem” (Neh 11:2). The people who willingly offered to stay in Judah’s major city received a special blessing. God has a heart for major cities. Those of us who dwell in major cities are responsible for spreading the gospel in cultural capitals of the world. It can be easy to fantasize about moving out of the city and away from the populace; but God wants us to live in cities so we can impact other people around us. If you live in a city, be encouraged. God will bless you richly for willingly offering to stay.
“Blessed shall you be in the city…” – Deut 28:3
Prayer:
Father, protect our cities. Help us to be lights in dark places; hope to the hopeless, and ambassadors of grace to those who need Your love the most. Sustain and support us in cities. Give us rest in even the busiest metropolis, in Jesus’ mighty name.
