Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And the sons of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt were two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who went to Egypt were seventy. – Gen 46:27
Seventy people went down to Egypt from Jacob’s household. Now flash forward to the Exodus, 430 years later. When Moses led God’s people out of Egypt, they had grown to 600,000 “men on foot, besides children” (Ex 12:37). Scholars estimate that would mean at least 2.4 million people, and perhaps many more!!
What happened over 430 years in captivity? Supernatural growth! God had called Jacob down into Egypt; and when you go where God calls you to go, He will grow you the way He promised you would grow!
So He said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not fear to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there. I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph will put his hand on your eyes.” – vv 3-4
Where is God calling you? No matter what you are starting with, trust that He will make you great in that place!
Prayer:
Father, give me faith for growth. All that matters is that I am the center of Your perfect will. If I go where You call me to go, You will go with me, in Jesus’ name!
