Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then the king made a great feast, the Feast of Esther, for all his officials and servants; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces and gave gifts according to the generosity of a king. – Esther 2:18
There is such a sentiment as the “generosity of a king.” King Ahasuerus had deposed Queen Vashti and remarried to Queen Ester. According to Persian custom, there was much to celebrate! So he “proclaimed a holiday and “gave gifts according to the generosity of a king.”
Royalty knows how to give good gifts. After all, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (Jn. 3:16). God didn’t give His leftovers! He gave His best: His only begotten Son.
There are two things to note when it comes to royal generosity:
1) God is royally generous to you. Do not stumble through life in poverty! Know that the “blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it” (Prov. 10:22). God wants you to have enough to fulfill the divine mandate on your life, and then enough left over to go out and bless other people.
2) As royalty, you are expected to be generous. You are to be a giver, because the King whose Kingdom you represent is generous! Your giving is a representation of His heart. And understanding #1 – that God is generous and His resources never run out – will empower you to fulfill #2. Receive God’s generosity, and go out and be generous, in Jesus’ name!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for being so generous with me! Thank You for loving me so much that You sent Jesus to die on a cross in my place. God, I am asking You to make me generous so that I can represent Your kingdom and character well. I will be generous! And I will never run out, in Jesus’ name.
