Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. – 2 Cor. 4:2
The word of God is a treasure. His word should be valued and prized above all else. Properly used and honored, God’s word brings new life. But Scripture cautions against “handling the word of God deceitfully.”
When we try to make the Bible say what we want it to say, we are handling the word of God deceitfully. God’s word is a mirror. You should hold it up to your life and see if the two match. Does your life look like God’s word? If not, don’t change your interpretation of His word to match your desired lifestyle! Change your life to march His word.
We are the ones who must change. His word will always stay the same.
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. – 2 Cor. 3:18
Prayer:
Father, I invite You to change me. Help me to honestly evaluate whether my life looks like Your word! If it doesn’t, it’s time to change my life to match Your word. Convict me, and strengthen me to change, in Jesus’ name!
