Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

“For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Cor 4:18). For most of us, sight is our dominant sense. We judge our circumstances by what we see. We also define success by tangible rewards: what we see around us as evidence that our hard work has paid off. But Paul cautions the church at Corinth that everything we see is only temporary. No one will live forever, and we cannot take any temporal treasures with us when we die. We must live for eternal reward. We must live to glorify God and expand His Kingdom so that when we get to heaven we will see the fruit of our labor. Temporal rewards only satisfy for a season; but eternal rewards satisfy forever.

Prayer:

Father, help me to remember that I am contending for souls. Help me to remember that my reward is Jesus Christ Himself. When I die, I get to enjoy eternity with Him!
