Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. – 2 Cor 7:9
The early church was doing many things right! But there were also some things wrong. Paul wrote the Corinthians a letter to give them the instruction they needed. He didn’t play nice, and pretend the church didn’t have room for growth. He told the truth, as gracefully as he possibly could.
Is there anyone in your life to whom you owe a tough conversation? Are there people who say and do the wrong thing, but act like it’s not a big deal? Have the tough conversation. The sooner you do, the sooner genuine repentance can take place.
Prayer:
Father, give me the grace and boldness required to have tough conversations. I know truth leads to repentance. I don’t want to be mean, but I want to be honest, in Jesus’ name!
