Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
If the ax is dull, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but wisdom brings success. – Eccl 10:10
Is your ax dull? Your “ax” is your capacity to do the things God has called you to do. We “sharpen the ax” by spending time in God’s word:
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword… – Heb 4:12
The more time you spend in God’s word, the sharper your ax will be. Without God’s word, you are forced to rely on your own strength: you will waste precious energy by needlessly swinging away at things that should be easy! But when you’re in God’s word, everything you do will cut right through resistance.
Spend time in the word. Sharpen your ax! There is no such thing as time wasted in the word of God.
Prayer:
Father, make me sharp! Increase my capacity to cut through resistance as I spend time in Your word. Thank You for the sharpening wisdom in Your word, in Jesus’ name!
