Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
I opened for my beloved, but my beloved had turned away and was gone. My heart leaped up when he spoke. I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer. – Song of Solomon 5:6

Does it ever seem like God is hiding? You hear Him knock, but open the door (i.e. make time in prayer) only to find out He’s not there?

Song of Solomon details an exchange between the Beloved and His bride (most often interpreted as Christ and the Church). The two lovers are caught in what seems like a game of cat and mouse: constantly searching for each other, but missing each other, only to find each other again! When we experience this in our prayer lives, we get frustrated; but God didn’t create this exchange for frustration; He created it for beauty.

Sometimes God leaves room for you to seek Him. It’s not that He wants to confuse you or play games with you; He simply wants you to develop a desire for intimacy. Do you want to see His face enough to go looking for Him? Do you want to hear His voice enough to seal out the world and listen?

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. – Jer 29:13

Prayer:

Lord, I love You! My heart leaps when You speak. I pray I would never be too busy to listen to Your voice. I pray I would never be too hurried to seek Your face! I want to seek and find You, with all my heart, in Jesus’ name!
