Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men. – Prov 22:29

Excellence positions you for favor. God brings the favor; but you are responsible for positioning yourself to receive it. Do you see the partnership required? God wants you to “stand before kings;” but first you have a part to play by “excelling in your work!”

To excel is the Hebrew mahiyr (Strong’s H4106), which means to be quick, prompt, skilled, and ready. Do you excel in your work? If you want to be promoted, the key is to excel!

I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. – Thomas Jefferson

Prayer:

Father, help me to excel in my work! I know that You are the One who brings the blessing; but I also recognize that I am responsible to position myself to receive it! Make me a quick, prompt, skilled and ready worker, in Jesus’ name.
