Commentary from Pastor Mike White:
So the Light of Israel will be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; It will burn and devour His thorns and his briers in one day. – Is 10:17
Jesus is not after behavior modification; He wants heart transformation! Instead of trying to identify and uproot the sin in our lives, we can simply ask Jesus to burn it away. If you’re in a dark room and can’t find your way out, it does no good to sit and curse the darkness; simply flip on the light, and the darkness will be gone!
Jesus Christ is a fire and a flame. When you are set on fire for the Lord, He will burn away all impurities. When you fix your eyes on Him, everything else will fade to black. Sin will have no hold on you, because Jesus will be your One Desire!
Prayer:
Father, burn away the impurities in my life! I want to see Jesus – nothing and no one else! Help me to live my life for Him, in full view of the finished work of the Cross.
