Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)… – Eph. 2:4-5
God saved you. Jesus died on the cross in your place. He took on the punishment – the death sentence! – you deserve, so that you could have eternal life when you believe in Him. And do you know why He did it?
He loves you. God saved you, “even when [you] were dead in trespasses.” When you were the farthest and most rebellious you have ever been, God saved you. He brought you out “because of His great love.”
God loves you. He has always loved you. When He knit you together in your mother’s womb, He loved you. When He planned your birth before the foundation of the world, He loved you. He has never stopped. And He never will.
No matter who you are, where you’re from of what you’ve done, know this today: you are loved!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for loving me! There is nothing I could ever do to earn Your love; but You give it to me as a free gift all the same. Thank You for loving me, and equip me to love You back with all my heart, in Jesus’ name.
