Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. – Eph 5:8
You don’t just have light. You are light! It is one thing to carry something. But it is another thing altogether to become something. This is what the Gospel does. It transforms us. It makes us altogether new!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. – 2 Cor 5:17
Christianity is not about what you have; it is about who you are. You are a child of God (Gal 4:6). You are the righteousness of Christ (2 Cor 5:21). You are light in the Lord. That means that anywhere you go, darkness flees: not just because of what you carry, but because of who Jesus has caused you to become!
What you carry can be stolen or left behind; but who you are can never be taken away.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for making me new. Thank You that I am a new creation! I am a child of God. I am light in the Lord! Help me to walk in the light, worthy of the calling to which You have called me, in Jesus’ name.
