Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth. – Is 62:6-7
A watchman is one who keeps guard. In ancient times, watchmen would stand on the top of city walls and look out over the horizon, scanning for enemies. The watchmen would be the first to see incoming enemies, and warn the city to make ready and prepare a defense.
You and I are called to be watchmen and women in prayer. We are called to keep guard over our city, looking out with our spiritual eyes at things to come, and making ready to prepare a defense. Satan wants to attack and infiltrate our cities. His armies are many; but we can thwart them in prayer.
This is the call to arms Isaiah gave to the watchmen: never hold your peace. Do not keep silent. Do not rest from praying to God – night and day – until He does everything He wants to do in your city!
What would your city look like if Christian men and women stood guard, and prayed without ceasing for God’s will to come to pass?
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. – Eph 6:12
Prayer:
Father, thank You for making me a watchman! I accept my role to pray. I pray Your Holy Spirit would fill my heart with powerful prayers that will fend off every attack of the enemy in Jesus’ name!
