Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ…” (Phil 3:20). Paul makes a point of telling us that our citizenship is in heaven. We do not simply sit and wait for Christ’s second coming from the earth; we wait for Him to come again as citizens of heaven! We have the same rights and privileges as Jesus Christ Himself because we are citizens in heaven, seated in Him in heavenly places:

  • Whenever Satan seeks to afflict us, we can say no. We must know our rights as citizen in heaven!
  • Whenever sickness enters our bodies, we can cast it out in Jesus’ name.
  • Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, Who works in and through us to make us more Christ-like every day.
  • When we pray, we can pray with heavenly authority.
  • When we praise and worship God, we can worship Him from a place of intimacy.
  • When we die, we will enjoy restored status in heaven because we are already citizens there!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the hope You have given us in heaven! Help me to remember that I am heaven-bound. Help me also to remember that I am already a citizen in heaven! I want to live with the rights that status entails.
