Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints… – Col 1:3-4
We know Paul prayed without ceasing (1 Thess 5:17). But what did he pray for? Whom did he pray for? He prayed for other people. He prayed for the church!
He prayed for the Colossians….
For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you… – Col 1:9
He prayed for the Philippians…
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy… – Phil 1:3-4
He prayed for the Ephesians…
Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers… – Eph 1:15-16
He prayed for the Thessalonians…
We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers… – 1 Thess 1:2
Paul was a writer! He was a preacher! But more than anything, he was a prayer. He prayed for other people, because he knew their very spiritual lives depended on it. Are you praying for others like their lives depend on it?
Prayer:
Father, help me to take my eyes off myself, and pray for other people! I know You put other people in my life so I can pray for them. Make me faithful, and make me ready, in Jesus’ name!
