Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?” – Matt 18:33
The blood of Jesus atones for all our sin: past, present and future. God paid our infinite sin debt with the very life of His Only Son Jesus Christ! He forgave us when forgiveness should have been impossible. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (Jn 3:16).
Now it is our responsibility to go and do likewise. Who are we to withhold forgiveness when God has so freely offered it to us?
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven… – Matt 5:44-45
Prayer:
Father, give me the grace and the strength to forgive the people who offend me. You forgave me when it was impossible; now help me to forgive others, no matter how hard it seems, in Jesus’ name!
