Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. O Lord, correct me, but with justice; not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing. – Jer 10:23-24
“It is not in man…to direct his own steps.” If we can’t direct ourselves, we need a Director to point us in the right direction. That is why we need God’s Holy Spirit as our Counselor and our Guide. He lovingly corrects us, and puts us back on the right path whenever re-direction is required.
True worship means 1) admitting you can’t direct your own steps, and 2) asking God to direct them for you. True discipleship means inviting God to lovingly correct you, and point you in the right direction! When we are on our own, we lack direction; but when God guides, He takes us where we need to go.
Prayer:
Father, I invite you to correct me. Whenever I am on the wrong track, point me back in the right direction. I submit to Your divine guidance and leadership, in Jesus’ name!
