Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. – Jer 23:3
The sheepfold is an enclosed space, inside of which there is provision and abundance. God’s promise is this: if we go where He has called us, we will be blessed in every way! If, on the other hand, we wander outside of God’s will for our lives, we will fail.
Many of God’s people are not fruitful, and do not increase, because they try and make a home outside of the territory God has allotted them. Stay inside the pen! He will prosper you where He has planted you!
I had a career in finance before moving into full-time ministry. Once God called me to be a pastor, I struggled with the decision: should I stay in finance and keep a “reliable” salary, or move into ministry and trust God to provide? The choice seems simple on paper, but it is difficult in practice. After much prayer, I realized that my “safe” career was no guarantee for success. Satan could easily poke holes in any safety net I constructed for myself. I realized that if I did anything but pursue the call of God on my life, I would be putting myself outside the sheepfold!
So, I stayed in the pen. It is far better to be blessed where God has called you, than to struggle because your plans take precedence over His.
Prayer:
Father, help me to stay in my lane! I only want to go where You have called me. Keep me in the perfect center of Your perfect will, in Jesus’ name!
