Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: ‘Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge those who are carried away captive from Judah, whom I have sent out of this place for their own good, into the land of the Chaldeans.’” – Jer. 24:5

Jeremiah saw a vision of two baskets: “One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first ripe; and the other basket had very bad figs which could not be eaten, they were so bad” (v. 2). The “good figs” – God’s faithful people – would be carried away into Babylon. They would be taken captive! The “bad figs” – the wicked rulers of Jerusalem at that time – would get to stay in Jerusalem. How was that fair? Why did the righteous have to leave their city, but the wicked got to stay?

God was removing the righteous “for their own good.” He was sending them out of their comfort zone for their protection!! When you get laid off from a job, what if God is actually protecting you instead of trying to embarrass you? When you get broken up with, what if God is actually saving you from a bad relationship instead of trying to break your heart?

The next time a door closes, ask yourself: what if God is actually closing it for my benefit? When you feel like things aren’t going your way, ask yourself: what if God is actually opening a new door that will be better for me in the long run? God will send you out of a place for your own good. So instead of getting upset, thank Him!

Prayer:

Father, thank You that you ALWAYS have my best interest in mind. I am so grateful that You protect me. I am so thankful that You send me out of places for my own good! I trust You. I give You fill authority over my life, because You know better than me, in Jesus’ name!
