Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

“Go and tell Hananiah, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: “You have broken the yokes of wood, but you have made in their place yokes of iron.”’” – Jer 28:13

Hananiah was a people-pleaser: he said what people wanted to hear. Jeremiah was a God-pleaser: he faithfully proclaimed what the Lord had given him to speak. Hananiah made things worse for God’s people by stretching the truth. Jeremiah pleased God by proclaiming His word: nothing more, and nothing less.

You cannot please man and God (Gal 1:10). You have to choose! Are you willing to faithfully pursue the Lord, even if the men and women around you might not understand? Are you willing to preach the Gospel, even if your unsaved friends look at you sideways? Men-pleasers have their reward in this life; God-pleasers reserve their reward for the next.

Prayer:

Father, I want to please You. Nothing and no one else matters! Help me to faithfully follow You, in Jesus’ name. Help me to preach Your Gospel without reservation, in Jesus’ name!
