Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting… – 1 Tim 2:8
Prayer is the most important thing we can ever do. Jesus often “withdrew” to a quiet place to pray (Lk 5:16). Paul encouraged the early church to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess 5:17). In today’s reading, we are encouraged to pray “everywhere” – with our hands lifted high, and with no doubt in our minds that God will do what He promised to do!
There are different types of prayer (see verse 1). Supplication means making a personal request to God. Intercession means making a request on behalf of someone else. Thanksgiving is grateful prayer that honors God for His faithfulness in doing everything He has said He would do. God gave us so many types of prayer so it would never get old! No matter what we are going through, there is prayer that will convey our emotions to God, and position us to receive what God wants us to have!
Prayer is the most important thing. Let’s never forget it!
Prayer:
Father, help me to never forget the importance of prayer. I know my number one job – every day – is to pray. Help me to never forget it, in Jesus’ name.
