Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. – 1 Tim 2:1-2
Are you praying for our President? Are you praying for our leaders? Are you praying for your boss or supervisor at work? How about the pastors at your church?
Whether you agree with them or not, your Scriptural responsibility is to pray for the leaders in your life. Scripture exhorts us to pray for “all who are in authority” (v 2). We must pray, make supplication, and give thanks for all our leaders – whether local, state, national or international. This especially applies if we don’t like them, or agree with them. Jesus exhorts us to, “…love [our] enemies, bless those who curse [us], do good to those who hate [us], and pray for those who spitefully use [us] and persecute [us]” (Matt 5:44). How can leaders get better if we withhold our prayers?
It’s easy to complain about the leaders in your life. It is much harder, however, to pray for them. Will you join me in prayer?
Prayer:
Father, remind me to pray for the leaders in my life every single day. Make me disciplined in prayer for leaders of my city, my nation, and all over the world, in Jesus’ name!
