Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. – 1 Tim 6:7-8

What are you working for? Will you spend your whole life working for things you can’t take with you when you go? Or will you spend your days working for Jesus, and expanding His Kingdom?

Too often, we focus on what we don’t have. We allow what we don’t have to determine God’s faithfulness and dictate our happiness. But what about what you do have? Paul reminds Timothy that he has food and clothing: everything he needs to serve God with all his heart! And that is reason enough to be content.

If you focus on what you’re missing, you will be miserable. But if you focus on everything God has given you, you will be content: full of joy through every trial and circumstance! God has given you everlasting hope and eternal life. What more can you possibly need to rejoice?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for blessing me in so many ways! Thank You for faithfully providing everything I need to serve You. Help me to focus on everything you’ve done for me, and not to worry about the rest!
