Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. – Matt. 3:16

Up until His baptism Jesus had performed zero miracles. No blind eyes opened. No deaf ears unstopped. No lepers cleansed! No dead raised.

But at His baptism, all that changed. As Jesus came up out of the baptismal waters, the Holy Spirit met Him. The Spirit of God descended upon Him and “alighted” on Him. To “alight” is the Greek erchomai (Strong’s G2064), which means to appear, manifest, or intersect. Jesus and the Holy Spirit intersected (i.e. they met with force) at Jesus’ baptism; and from that moment forward Jesus was empowered for His earthly ministry.

When you meet the Holy Spirit, your whole life will change. The same empowerment for miracles that was upon Jesus will come upon you![1] Don’t try to live one day doing God’s work without the Spirit of Jesus. The Holy Spirit will do in one moment what would take you a lifetime on your own.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your Holy Spirit! I ask that Your Spirit would come and meet me. I need help! And I know the only way I will be equipped and empowered to do what You have called me to do is by resting in His presence. Come Holy Spirit!
