Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep— So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, and your need like an armed man. – Prov 6:9-11
Rest is good! But laziness is sin. We must root out laziness and procrastination. So, how do we do it? No one wants to be lazy. No one wants to procrastinate! But we suffer from it because of how we try and deal with it!
The antidote to laziness is not to get up and try to do that thing you don’t want to do. If you try and do it yourself, it will never happen. The answer is to ask God to move you. God, fill me up with a zealous desire to serve you. Fill me up with a hunger for more! Rid me of any hidden laziness and procrastination, and light a fire in my bones to serve You!
Don’t try to do it yourself. Ask God to do it through you!
Prayer:
Father, light my heart on fire for the things of God. I want to passionately read Your word every day. I want to recklessly pursue Your presence! Whatever You want for me, I want for me: and I will stop at nothing short of sin to get it, in Jesus’ name!
