Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. – Lam. 3:22-23
What does it mean that God’s compassions are “new every morning?” Does His supply of compassion refresh overnight? Does His mercy recharge like the iPhone on your bedside table? Of course not. God’s supply of compassion is infinite! His mercy never runs out. But what does change from one day to the next is your capacity to receive His compassion. To receive His mercy. To receive His grace!
The verses above tell us two things:
1) You receive best when you are well rested. Take a moment first-thing this morning to receive the love of Jesus. Invite the Holy Spirit to move in your day with miracle-working power! Jesus wants you to be well-rested and ready to receive:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” – Matt. 11:28
2) Every trial is an opportunity. You have the chance today to worship God through a set of circumstances you have never faced before! Will you let the opportunity pass and continue to feel discouraged? Or will you praise Him in the middle of your mess and let Him show you His compassions that “fail not”?
Your trial might still be underway. But today is a new day! And God’s compassions – His undying, never-ending actions that prove His love for you are real – are new every morning.
Father, thank You for your mercies that keep me alive. Thank You for Your compassions that remind me how much You love me! Thank You for Your faithfulness that constantly refreshes and revitalizes me. I will spend my life worshipping You in Jesus’ name!
