Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. – Heb. 2:1

We should rely on God more and more every single day! The longer you have been a Christian, the more attention – not less! – you must give to God’s Word. The longer you’ve been a Christian, the more attention – not less! – you should give to the voice of God in prayer.

Hebrews 2:1 is addressing a very real tendency. When we first meet Jesus, we get excited! Everything with Him is new, and our prayers get answered left, right and center. But as we walk with Him more and more, we “drift away” (v 1). We get “lukewarm” (Rev. 3:16)! We forget what it means to worship with reckless abandon and throw our lives at Jesus’ feet.

But it’s time to come back. You will not drift away, in Jesus’ name! You will give “more earnest heed” to the things God says, not less! And as you refuse to drift away, you will feel closer to Him than ever before.

Prayer:

Lord, I pray I would rely on You more and more as my life progresses, never less! Help me to put my ear to Your heart, in Jesus’ name. I want to give You all my attention and all my devotion, every day for the rest of my life!
