Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

“Thus shall My anger be spent, and I will cause My fury to rest upon them, and I will be avenged…” – Ezek 5:13

Just as currency can be spent and exhausted, so is the Lord’s anger. Currency is of no use unless it is spent (and it will not be created unless it is needed for spending), and the same holds true for God’s fury. God’s wrath is the compensation we deserve for our sin. But Jesus has already received all the wrath God has to give!

God poured out His wrath on Jesus Christ at the Cross. Jesus was our Substitute; He took on the punishment we deserve for our sins, and gave us the inheritance only He deserves. When God’s wrath is spent, there is no more left to spend. That means that because of the Cross, there is no more wrath for us to bear!

Thank God we don’t have to live our lives in fear, waiting for the next shoe to drop. God’s wrath is spent, and only His righteousness remains!

Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. – Rom 5:9

Prayer:

Father, thank You for sparing me from Your wrath. Thank You for the eternal gift of Jesus Christ on the Cross. He took on all Your anger, so that I could take on Your glory!
