Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

For every high priest…can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness. – Heb 5:1-2

Time for a quiz! Be honest. Check your heart. How do you feel about people who don’t go to church as much as you? How do you view people who just can’t get it together and follow Jesus? Do you look down on them, or do you love them as brothers and sisters?

Even the high priest was required to have compassion on those who simply could not keep it together. To be ignorant means to miss the point, and going astray means losing sight of the path God has for you; but God’s ministers are called to love them all!

Don’t judge others for their sin. Instead, love them. Minister to them. Reach out to them in the depth of their sin, just as God reached out to you in the depth of yours.

Prayer:

Father, help me to love the people around me unconditionally. I know You put everyone I know in my life for a reason. Help me to discover the reasons, and to love unconditionally, in Jesus’ name!
