Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection… – Heb 6:1

The best way to keep from moving backwards is to press forward. How do you avoid sin? Move towards the Cross. How do you avoid falling back into a former, destructive lifestyle? Move forward and reach for the things of Heaven!

Scripture exhorts us to move towards perfection, even though we already know perfection is impossible. The implication, therefore, is that we should never stop reaching up for the things of God, no matter how out of reach they seem! We should never be satisfied with what we have already attained for the Kingdom! We should always seek to expand the reach of the Gospel; and as we do, God will expand our own tent pegs and broaden our reach.

Forward motion does not mean that we cannot rest. We should always be operating from a place of rest, but we should avoid stagnation. If we allow God to pull us, forward motion will be effortless. Make a decision today to reach forward for the things of God!

“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” – C.S. Lewis

Prayer:

Father, pull me out of stagnation. I’m sick of encountering setbacks, and I’m sick of standing still. Pull me out into the unknown!
