Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
The word of the Lord came again to me, saying: “Son of man, when a land sins against Me by persistent unfaithfulness, I will stretch out My hand against it; I will cut off its supply of bread, send famine on it, and cut off man and beast from it.” – Ezek. 14:12-13

How much sin is too much sin? You’re human. You’re going to make mistakes. You will have bad days! But at what point does a slip-up become a complete wipeout?

Scripture cautions against “persistent unfaithfulness.” In this passage, God is filling Ezekiel with a message of repentance to preach to the people of Israel. You see, Israel was more committed to their sin than they were to God! Their sinful ways had become a lifestyle. It had become clear that they were no longer living for God; they were living for idols.

Jesus has to be your lifestyle. He should be the only One you worship! If your career, your sexual identity, your relationship, your partying, or anything else comes before Jesus, it is time to repent before you fall into “persistent unfaithfulness.” Ask God to bring you back from the edge, and He will bring you closer to His heart than you have ever been before.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded… Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. – James 4:8, 10

Prayer:

Father, I pray that I would never be committed to anything or anyone more than I am committed to You! You are the only One my heart adores. You are the only One I desire! I want to live a life of unconflicted worship unto You, with nothing ever standing in the way, in Jesus’ name.
