Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. – Heb. 10:26-27

When you see Jesus for who He really is, everything changes. You suddenly understand that God loves you more than you can ever imagine. You instantly comprehend that your life has a purpose greater than you could have ever imagined: you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Ps. 139:14) to do something that no one else can do! When you understand that the God of the universe wrapped Himself in flesh and came down to die in your place, your entire existence will immediately take on a new theme of gratefulness and joyous thanksgiving.

How could you go back to your sin after meeting Jesus? How could you “sin willfully” (v 26) after seeing Him in His glory? You see, if you are still tempted to sin, it doesn’t mean you have to try harder to be holier. It means you need to put your eyes on Jesus! It means you need to ask Him to reveal Himself to you like never before. If you are still temped to sin, it means you haven’t really seen Jesus. Maybe you’ve seen the inside of a church! Perhaps you’ve been introduced to religion. But Jesus is the One who introduces you to a “new and living way” (v 20) to relate to God and understand His will for your life!

Today I pray that You would see Jesus for who He really is. If you’ve never really met Him before, I pray that He would make Himself real to you. And if you’ve been in church so long that you’ve forgotten who Jesus really is, I pray that He would overwhelm you in your weakest moment, as His love makes you stronger than you’ve ever been before.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You that I get to meet Jesus! Thank You that He is always ready & willing to meet with me. I don’t just want to make time to meet with You today: I want to make time with You the only reason I am alive. Lord, I want to see You like never before, in Jesus’ name!
