Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me.” – Ezek. 33:7
God could have spoken directly to Israel. He had done it before, and He could certainly do it again! But instead, He spoke through another person. He took Ezekiel and made him “a watchman for the house of Israel.” God’s people needed to be warned of what was coming! And Ezekiel would deliver the warning.
God is sovereign. Can He come and speak directly to you? Of course. In fact, you should be hearing and learning from the Lord constantly through fellowship with His Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 13:14, John 14:26, 1 John 2:27). But God will also use other people to deliver His message. This is why you need to be in Christian community! This is why you need to have men and women you call friends who can hear from the Lord when your objectivity is compromised.
Do you need to hear from God? Spend time in prayer. Read His word! And be open when God uses other people to confirm what He is speaking to you in prayer.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for speaking to me! I know You always speak to me. I am open to hearing from You every way possible. I want to hear from You in Your Word! I want to hear from You in prayer. And I am asking You to send other people into my life to confirm Your word, in Jesus’ name.
