Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them. – Ezek 33:32
Church is not a concert! Sunday service should not be a performance where we sit and listen, waiting to clap when the show is over. Our time in the presence of God should not just be nice; it should be transformational!
When you go to church, do you come home different? When you spend time in prayer, do you say “Amen” and feel changed? When you read God’s Word, do you feel renewed? We should not only hear what God is saying; we should also do what He has said. It is as we do what we hear that we will be forever changed.
What has God called you to do? And do you have the courage to do it?
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. – Jas 1:22-24
Prayer:
Father, make me not only a hearer of the Word, but a doer also. I want to be changed in Your presence! I want my mind to be renewed as I read your Word. I want to be transformed as I spend time in prayer. Thank You for being faithful to make all things new, in Jesus’ name!
