Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. – James 1:2-4

James says we should count it all joy when we fall into various trials. A trial is something that tests and stretches us. A trial means something didn’t go our way! So why would we count it joy when life doesn’t cooperate?

Testing produces patience, and patience produces perfection. If you got everything you wanted right away, you wouldn’t be patient; you would be spoiled! But when you have to wait for the answer to your prayer – when you’re tested – patience will have its perfect work. You will be made perfect and complete. You will lack nothing!

There’s purpose in the suffering. There’s purpose in the trial! Your faith will not be broken; it will be solidified and strengthened. God didn’t cause it; but He will use it for His glory. He will refine and strengthen your faith – and give you unspeakable joy – through the trials you endure, in Jesus’ name!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for doing a perfect work in me. I will be joyful: even when things don’t go my way! Thank You for strengthening me and supporting me, all of my days, in Jesus’ name.
