Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. – Jas 5:7-8

Scripture tells us to be patient. Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength (Is 40:31)! We do well to wait on Jesus. Everything He has promised will come to pass in due time.

But waiting is hard! So what should we do while we wait? Don’t focus on the fruit; focus on the root. Don’t focus on the outcome; work on your heart! To “establish” your heart (v 8) means to “make stable, fix, strengthen, and make firm.”[1] Waiting for God’s promise means you have a unique opportunity to focus inward instead of outward: to ask the Holy Spirit to remove every obstacle to intimacy with God, and to invite Jesus to take the throne of your life like never before!

Waiting doesn’t have to be hard. Use the time wisely and work on your heart. Then, when the promise comes, you’ll be ready!

Prayer:

Father, help me to wait well! Release me from all anger and frustration. While I wait, I ask that You would heal my heart, in Jesus’ name!
