Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

So they gathered it every morning, every man according to his need. – Ex 16:21

The people of Israel were hungry. They cried out to God, and He promised to rain down bread from heaven. But there was a catch: each man would only be able to gather as much manna as he needed.

Some tried to gather more, and stored it up for use at a later time. But the extra manna rotted and stank (Ex 16:20). The message is clear: God wants us to remain humbly reliant on Him. He promises to make all of heaven’s resources available to us, and in return He asks that we stop trying to build up storehouses to fall back on. God wants us to rely solely on Him; not on the false sense of security we build through the accumulation of earthly treasures.

Rely on God every day. Don’t try to rely on any safety net apart from God. When you trust Him completely, He will open the windows of heaven and make all His resources available to you!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for provision. Your heart is to give me fresh manna every day. When I read Your word, I humbly ask for fresh revelation. When I need literal, physical provision, I humbly ask that You would provide for all my needs. I know that when I call, You answer.
