Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward than he who flatters with the tongue. – Prov 28:23
Don’t you appreciate honest friends? A real friend is someone who will tell you how (s)he really feels. A real friend is someone who won’t hold back the truth. A real friend tells you when you’re out of line, in a spirit of love!
Sometimes we’re afraid to be honest with our friends because we’re worried the truth will hurt. But lies always hurt more then the truth. Always. What is hidden will be uncovered; and what is in the darkness will be brought into the light! And when your friend finds out the truth, do you know what his first question will be for you? Why didn’t you tell me?!
Don’t tell your friends what they want to hear; tell them what they need to hear to be the best person they can possibly be!
Prayer:
Father, help me to be honest with the friends You have given me. Surround me with people who are willing to be open and honest with me! Help me to use my tongue for good, and never for gain, in Jesus’ name.
