Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. – 1 Jn. 1:6

It’s time to be honest. Are you really a Christian? Scripture does not mince words here: if you walk in darkness, you’re not a Christian. You can say you have fellowship with Jesus all you want; but if you’re more committed to sin than you are to your Savior, you “lie and do not practice the truth.” Ouch.

Once you truly experience the miraculous touch of Heaven, there will be no going back to your old ways. Scripture says that when we “have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, [but] are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse…than the beginning” (2 Pet. 2:20). The person who meets Jesus, and then goes back to his sin, is like a “dog [who] returns to his own vomit” (2 Pet. 2:22, Prov. 26:11). How could you genuinely see the face of Jesus and ever want anything or anyone else?

Not everyone who calls himself a Christian will enter the kingdom of heaven.[1] Only those who love Jesus will be welcomed in. And how do you know if you really love Jesus? You do what He says:

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” – Jn. 14:15

Anything less than obedience is empty talk. But you can make a decision to change everything today. If there is anything coming between you and a real relationship with Jesus – one where you hear His voice and do what He says – it’s time to let it go now. Do not risk your salvation for temporary pleasure! Throw yourself at the feet of Jesus, and trust in His supernatural power to transform and to save.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that the blood of Jesus cleanses me and makes me whole! I will live my life for Jesus: really and truly, from this day forward. If anything ever tries to come between me and Him, I pray You would root it out in Jesus’ name!

Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” – Matt. 7:21-23
