Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. – 1 Jn. 2:27
Politicians, religious leaders, media commentators, and business leaders are all saying some version of the same thing: we live in unprecedented times. Evil runs rampant like never before. Sinister schemes are being planned all over the world. Coronavirus is mutating through the entire Greek alphabet. Russia is testing hypersonic missiles that could annihilate an entire country in the blink of an eye. The Taliban and Iran are skirmishing on their border. The nation of Ethiopia is engulfed in a civil war and the rest of the world has barely stopped to notice.
What do we, as Christians, do in times like these? Whom can we trust to tell us how to think? On whom can we rely for a well-informed point of view, and a concrete plan of action? How can we make sure we are not deceived by corporations, governments, and other entities that constantly seek to influence the way we think?
You have an anointing from God. The anointing resided in you! “You do not need that anyone teach you.” Keep your eyes on Jesus, and trust that His anointing in you – the manifest presence of His Holy Spirit inside of you – will teach you and give you discernment in every moment of every day. You don’t need to know exactly what to do and how to respond! You just need to know the God who does.
Prayer:
Father, help me to take my cues from You and You alone! I will read Your Word like never before. I will seek You in prayer like never before! I will make deliberate decisions based on the guidance of Your Holy Spirit that align with Your Word. And I know that You will protect me, no matter what comes my way, in Jesus’ name!
