Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. – 3 John 4

The writer of 3 John, historically recognized as the apostle John but identified in the text only as “The Elder” (v 1), had some important things to say to Gaius. He prayed for him. He was proud of him. And he had “no greater joy” than to hear that his children – the men and women he had discipled – were walking in the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

There is no greater joy than leading someone closer to Jesus. I have had the privilege of preaching the Gospel to many people who have never heard who Jesus is before. I have had the pleasure of leading men and women to the Lord. I have had the honor of teaching young and old the Word of God. And there is nothing more satisfying than seeing people embrace Jesus for who He really is, and to see their lives fully and completely changed as a result.

Whom are you discipling? Ask God to bring you people who need a good Christian friend and mentor. Pour your heart and soul into them as you teach them to “imitate” you, just as you imitate Christ (1 Cor. 11:1). At the end of your life, God will have used you to impact scores of people in the best way, and there is no better testimony of a life well-lived than that.

Prayer:

Father, use me! I am ready to serve You. I want to pour into Your people and teach them who You are. Shape me, mold me, and use me for Your kingdom plan, in Jesus’ name!
