Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
When you eat the labor of your hands, you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord. – Ps. 128:2-4

Do you take pleasure in the simple things? Psalm 128 provides an underrated formula for happiness. Eat the labor of your hands (that means you need to work by the way!). Enjoy being married to your wife! As you work hard, she will be like a “fruitful vine” in your house, and your children will flourish. You will be blessed because you fear the Lord.

I’ve heard tons of prophecies. Most are about shaking the globe and changing the world. But what if what God really wants you to do is “aspire to lead a quiet life, mind your own business, and…work with your hands” (1 Thess. 4:11)?

Do the simple things well. And don’t forget to enjoy them!

Prayer:

Father, help me to focus on the simple things in my life. I want to work hard. I want to love my family well! I want to fear and worship You. Help me to keep my eyes on You so I can do all those things well, in Jesus’ name!
