Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to My people Israel.’ – Amos 7:15

Amos never asked to be a prophet. He certainly didn’t have a prophet’s pedigree: he didn’t come from a prophetic family and he wasn’t the son of a prophet (v 14). So why did God choose Amos?

Amos did the simple things well. Amos was a “sheepbreeder” (v 14). God saw the way Amos took care of the sheep; so He took him from the field and made him a prophet over the whole land.

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. – Col 3:23-24

Don’t try to get noticed. Do the simple things well; and God will notice.

Prayer:

Father, help me to do the simple things well! I trust that everything You have given me to do is significant. It all matters. Help me to do it unto You, in Jesus’ name!
