Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. – Rev. 3:11

We often focus our prayers on what we don’t have. God, won’t You give me a better job? Won’t You bless me with a bigger house? Won’t you increase my salary?

But how often do we focus on what we do have? Instead of praying prayers of petition (i.e. asking for something), what if we prayed prayers of thanksgiving? By necessity, praying for something you already have means you are lifting up grateful praise to Jesus and acknowledging that He is the source of every blessing in your life!

What do you have? Be grateful for what you have before you wish for more. Thank God for what He’s done before You ask Him to do more! You have Jesus. You have an “imperishable crown” waiting for you in Heaven (1 Cor. 9:24-25). Isn’t that enough?

When you covet something you don’t have, you give the enemy authority to come in and take what you do have. When you love something or someone more than Jesus, it’s a sign of disdain for the infinite love God has already given you as a gift.

Be thankful. Be grateful! You have Jesus. And He is more than enough.

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You. Thank You for Your presence. Thank You for Your Spirit! Thank You for everything You have already done: not only in my life, but 2,000 years ago on the Cross. Today I am making the decision to be grateful! Help me to make that choice every day, in Jesus’ name.
