Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.” – Rev. 4:9-11

John was given a vision of Heaven. The Holy Spirit took him into the throne room: the room where Jesus Himself sat. Around Jesus’ throne were “twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones…twenty-four elders” (v 4). And do you know what those elders were doing? Casting their crowns at the feet of Jesus. They were giving Him an offering because He is worthy!

When you see Jesus for who He truly is, you will have no trouble casting your most prized possession at His feet. After all, if He “created all things, and by [His] will they exist and were created” (v 11), why should we ever think anything belongs to us anyway? These elders had worked their entire lives for these crowns! Crowns in Scripture are described as a reward for a righteous life of devoted service to God (1 Cor. 9:24-25, Rev. 2:10). But when they saw Jesus, they immediately gave it all up. They gave Him everything they had to give without a second thought.

Jesus is worthy. He is holy! He is just and true. What can you give Him today that you have never given before?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your beautiful Son Jesus Christ. I want to worship Him with my whole heart! I want to worship Him with my whole life. You are the Creator of everything I have! So I gladly cast it at Your feet, in Jesus’ name.
