Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid… – Rev. 6:13-15a

Everything you look to as “stable” will eventually crumble and fall. Scripture describes the end of time that will precede the final judgment. The stars of heaven will fall to the earth. The sky will roll back like a scroll! Every mountain and island will be moved.

Climate scientists produce similarly bleak predictions. According to Scientific American, “Unless new approaches are adopted, the global amount of arable and productive land per person in 2050 will be only a quarter of the level in 1960…due to growing populations and soil degradation.”[1] If we continue to consume the way we are consuming, farming on planet earth will only be possible for another 60 years. That’s less than a lifetime before our run on planet earth expires.

If that sounds terrifying to you, good. Because it is a reminder that you should not trust in anything you find here on earth. When the world fails, only God will remain. And if you don’t have a relationship with Him, you have nothing. Trust in Him; because when you do, even the end of the world will mean the beginning of eternal life for you:

“But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then He will send His angels, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.” – Mk. 13:24-27

Prayer:

Father, help me to put my trust in You! I know that everything around me will fade. Only You will remain. The earth will continue to decay. The stars will fall from the sky! But when everything around me fails, You will remain. I thank You for it, in Jesus ‘ name.
