Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.” – Ex 20:19
God’s will is, and has always been, to speak with you directly: face to face. When he visited His people Israel, He called them all; but they were afraid. They saw His strength, and they feared His power. They were scared! And it was our spiritual ancestors who turned their face from God, not the other way around.
The enemy would love to trick you into thinking God doesn’t want to speak with you. Look how easily Satan convinced the Israelites to be afraid of God. They feared His presence, and turned from Him. But God’s will was always to speak with them directly! And He feels exactly the same way about speaking with you.
God’s will is to speak with you, face to face. Seek His face, and you will find abundant life!
Prayer:
Father, I pray You would increase my confidence in prayer. Don’t ever let me be tricked into believing You don’t want to speak with me face to face! You’ve always wanted me to come to You directly; and from this day forward, I will!
