Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

“Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls— yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation” (Hab 3:17-18). Many Old Testament prophets did not have what we would consider to be “desirable” lives. They spoke out God’s word in obedience, and in return they were often mocked and ridiculed – or even beaten and abused – by the communities into which God sent them. Yet men like Habakkuk learned to love God through it all. Their joy did not depend on their circumstances, but the fact that God chose to speak to them. They didn’t wait to rejoice until they saw the fruit of God’s promise; they rejoiced as soon as He made promises to them.

So what has God promised you? Rejoice, knowing that He is sure to perform everything He has promised!

Prayer:

Father, thank You that Your word is true, and Your promises are sure! I know I can depend on You in every situation, regardless of my circumstances. Thank You for Your faithfulness!
